Program Details

Junior Dancers
Ages 7+ with 1 or more years experience

June 17 - 21, June 24-28 and July 8-12 (1, 2 or 3 weeks)  M-F 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

No Audition Required. Classes will include daily ballet technique and conditioning classes as well as hands-on, interactive classes on costume designs, ballet terminology, pointe shoes, the development of ballet and famous ballets.

Parents and families are invited to an open class demonstration on the Friday of each session

Intermediate Intensive
Ages 9+ on pointe or beginning pointe

June 17 – July 26 (minimum enrollment of 2 weeks) M-F 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Audition Required. Intermediate students may sign-up for any combination of weeks, but must attend a minimum of 2-weeks. (The weeks do not have to be sequential). Students wishing to participate in the final performance must attend the last 3-weeks of the intensive. The final performance will be on Friday, July 26.

Curriculum for the Intermediate Intensive will include daily ballet technique class as well as pointe or boys’ class, variations, conditioning/Pilates, character, acting for dancers, and interactive ballet seminars (development of ballet, care for pointe shoes, costuming, etc.). Classes in modern, jazz and contemporary will vary by week.

Advanced Intensive
Ages 12+ with a minimum of 2 years on pointe

June 17 – July 26 (minimum enrollment of 2 weeks) M-F 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Audition Required. Advanced students may sign-up for any combination of weeks, but must attend a minimum of 2-weeks. (The weeks do not have to be sequential). Students wishing to participate in the final performance must attend the last 3-weeks of the intensive. The final performance will be on Friday, July 26.

Curriculum for the Advanced students will include daily ballet technique class as well as pointe or mens’ class, variations, conditioning/Pilates, acting for dancers, and interactive ballet seminars (development of ballet, career planning, preparing for auditions, etc.). Classes in modern, jazz and contemporary will vary by week.

Video and In-Class Auditions: In-class auditions can be scheduled by calling the studio at (616) 710-1666. A $25.00 audition fee is due at time of audition. If you are unable to attend an audition, a video may be submitted (see video audition link for instructions).

The MBA faculty is dedicated to providing the highest caliber of training to each student. Classes will be instructed by MBA Artistic Director, Irina Vassileni, MBA Ballet Master, Chien-Ming Lin, Modern Teacher, Amy Wilson, and guest teachers. Dress Code:

Dress Code, General Guidelines

A dress code allows for a disciplined and professional appearance of our students. All MBA students are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

Tights must be worn inside the ballet shoe and be clean with no holes or runs. Pink tights must be worn under the leotard. No jewelry is permitted in class except for small post earrings.

Students may wear warm-ups for the first five minutes of class. All warm-up clothing should be removed after that time unless permitted by the instructor.

We ask all students to wear street shoes as they enter and exit the MBA studios. Ballet shoes should never be worn outside.

Girls’ Uniform

  1. A camisole or tank style leotard in a solid neutral color.

  2. Pink tights for Technique, and Pointe.

  3. Black tights and bare feet for Contemporary (may be worn over leotard and pink tights). Socks permitted by the instructor.

  4. All levels must wear pink split sole canvas ballet shoes with elastic sewn.  

  5. Pink pointe shoes with ribbons and elastic sewn. Pointe shoes must be approved by your class instructor prior to sewing ribbons and elastic.

  6. Black 1.5" heel Mary Jane style character shoes (Intermediate & Advanced only).

  7. Black chiffon 14” wrap-around skirt for Pointe, Variations, and Character Dance (Intermediate & Advanced only).

  8. Slip-on black jazz shoes  (Junior & Intermediate only).  

Male Uniform

  1. Black tights - footed or footless.

  2. Black socks if wearing footless tights.

  3. Black canvas shoes.

  4. White or black  fitted t-shirt.

  5. Slip-on black jazz shoes (Junior & Intermediate only).

Housing:

MBA offers safe, supervised housing to summer students aged 12 to 18 at nearby college. Housing includes wireless internet access, kitchen access, laundry room access (laundry card fees additional), double rooms, three daily meals, transportation, and weekend activities. Housing applications are due by March 29, 2019.

Scholarships:

A limited number of scholarships, both need-based and merit are available for the Summer Intensive program.  If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please submit a Scholarship Application no later than March 15, 2019.
